The name “rigatone” comes from a characteristic feature of this pasta: it is “rigata”, furrowed, and as such, it can perfectly hold onto sauces, marrying the flavours of pasta and condiment. Rigatoni pasta from Gragnano PGI by “Pastificio dei Campi” is made exclusively from prime-quality raw materials, following the product specifications set by the PGI certification which this pasta obtained in 2013. Pasta is extruded through bronze dies, leaving a rough pasta surface which can perfectly absorb sauces, and then is left to slowly dry.

PGI product specifications are meant to protect the origin of pasta: the city of Gragnano has been an ideal place for pasta production since the 16th century, thanks to its mild and slightly humid climate. The company “Pastificio dei Campi” settled in this city in the region of Campania, where it handcrafts exceptional products. Moreover, “Pastificio dei Campi” worked to revitalise the soil of its fields in Apulia, abolished chemical fertilisers and chose ancient wheat varieties for its products. Its pasta is fully traceable and production takes place entirely in Italy; its products and the packaging made of recyclable materials show how much the company respects the environment.

Rigatoni, like all other furrowed pasta shapes not intended for baking, are perfect matches for sauces such as amatriciana or bolognese ragout; however, this pasta has such a genuine and extraordinary flavour, that it tastes incredible even with just a thread of oil and some grated cheese
